Miidera [Miidera Temple]

Mii-dera, formally called Onjoji located at the foot of Mount Hiei, is the head temple of the Tendai Jimon sect of Buddhism. The name gMii-derah, literally meaning gTemple of Three Wellsh, comes from the natural springs that were used for bathing three emperors of Tenji, Temmu, and Jito, who contributed to the founding of the temple.
The temple is famous for the Bodhisattva Kannon, and is the fourteenth destination of the Saikoku Pilgrimage of the 33 temples devoted to Kannon.

Ishiyamadera [Ishiyamadera Temple]

Ishiyama-dera is the 13th destination of the Saikoku Pilgrimage to 33 temples dedicated to Kannon, was established by the priest Roben in 749 (late Nara period), under the request of Emperor Shomu. The wollostonite rock is another scenic sight from which the temple name was derived. Also it is said that Murasaki Shikibu started writing the worldly famous Tale of Genji, a court story of the Heian period and novel at this temple.
